Good Morning,
There is some confusion with the upcoming Sergeant Promotional Exam scheduled for 2022. I attached 3-documents which contradict each other. The 83 R.T.T will have completed 5 years of service in August 2022.
"Chapter 22C Section 28 states: No person shall be eligible for appointment to the following titles until he shall have completed the following period of service as a uniformed member of the state police: sergeant, five years"
This has been the case where other members of the body have taken the exam with less than 5 years on SP. Example: Sgt. Robert Blazuk (82 R.T.T). In Sgt. Blazuk case, he happened to be promoted after the completion of his 5th year, but took the exam with 3 years of service.
POST may have changed the appointment requirement to 5 years of service to be eligible to take the promotional exam. However, I was only able to find the proposed Senate Bill and not the actual law signed into law. The senate bill states:
"Promotional examinations shall be open to a uniformed member who is a: (i) noncommissioned officer who has completed not less than 5 years of service as a uniformed member immediately before the final date for the filing of applications for such examination and who has completed, in the immediately preceding year"
My question is if SPAM can get a confirmation of which R.T.T. members will be eligible to take the upcoming sergeant promotional exam. I bring this up because I am not the only one wondering and do not want to waste time on studying if 83 R.T.T. and beyond are not eligible. If the latter is the case, it might be in the best interest of the union to put a notification to its members.
Thank you for your time.
